Inspired by pop artist, editorial photography and the endless world of computer design and animation, Mauricio Buitrago created a system based on; THE PIXEL. Hundreds of symmetrical wood blocks, hand-painted individually with acrylics, then neatly assembled in a elaborate woodworking process to create the factors of illusion and distance in each piece. When viewed up close, you see a modern display of colored blocks but as you question its form, your eyes and mind develop the need for distance between you and the piece, making a distinct image appear. Buitrago was born in Cali, Colombia in 1969.

Here is something new for you to see.  A comb like back rack for bicycle enthusiest.  PopUp Design created some bike racks for a public art project Roanoke, Virginia. The comb bike rake weights about 400 pound comb is handcrafted out of Mangaris using full mortise and tenon construction, while the hair is made from powder coated steel.

The bicycles look safe too me, this comb bike will certain attract the eyes of anyone passing by.

Korean sculptor Cha Jong-Rye works with wood as if it were clay or paint. She layers and sands hundreds of delicate wood pieces to create pockmarked canvases, threatening beds of thorns, or wall-sized recreations of crumpled cloth napkins. Jong-Rye completed her graduate work at Ewha Women’s University in Seoul in 1996 and has had numerous group exhibits and five solo shows, her latest at the Sungkok Art Museum.

An espresso machine made of wood by Helle Husby.

The result of a Norwegian approach to coffee – a world by and large dominated by Italian influences. By defining the core values of Norway and Scandinavia, and transforming these values into a design language the result is a truly unique product.

The Linje Espressomaker is a prototype originally created by Husby, Audun Grimstad, Åsne Kydland and Mariko Kurioka Rohde as an assignment for design school. “So, what distinguishes nordic design? Wood, we thought.”

Linje is made of layers of poplar wood that are glued together and then sanded down.

The stool is made from only 4,5 pieces of wood boards.

Popixel Lounge uses 36,000 ice cream sticks on a foam substrate to create not only an intriguing surface, but a surprisingly comfortable cushion that conforms to the occupant’s body, and slowly returns to its original position after the occupant rises.

Using 18,000 ice cream sticks left over from Popixel Lounge, the artist designed a simpler piece of furniture, one less experimental in its use of materials, and more general in the way users approach it.

The 2nd expensive chair is Poplar Carved Stool from a carpenter in North Carolina.  It took him about 3 years of working and waiting to finish this piece of art. The piece is finished with many applications of Danish Oil and repeated buffing with steel wool. It has a price $4,780.

The Inception Chair by RISD student Vivian Chiu is a series of ten interlocking chairs made of ash, meant to mimic the dream-within-a-dream concept from the 2010 film Inception.

Taking the chair archetype and placing within it chairs that are progressively smaller. Each chair has hand cut grooves on the inside edges of its seat frame as well as notches in the seat back. These grooves range from 1/2” wide to 1/8” wide. The mechanism works so that the pegs fit into the grooves of the chair one size bigger and slides into place so that the horizontal edge between the chair seat and back line up. The simple mechanism allows the chairs to be taken apart and put together with ease.

The face of this wooden girl looks pretty real.

The story behind this wood sculpture is as follows: Tokyo-based sculptor Yasuhiro Sakurai carves these stunning wall-mounted sculptures of mysterious women and their luscious hairstyles from cypress wood, giving them an almost golden appearance. Can you imagine walking into a house displaying these sculpture? I know painfully little about the artist and his work as there is almost nothing I can find online about him and my requests toGalleria Grafica Tokiowhere he is represented have gone unanswered. He attended the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music and will have work at the upcoming “One Moment” show at Chiba Citizens’ Gallery.

This is the real thing art lovers, this is a scale model of Moscow 1-500. This model has a dimension of  1540 square feet (144 square meters)  and it is located at the Moscow exhibitions.
It was built in 1988 and people are constantly updating it according to the new development of the city.  What a mammoth model and what a huge task for the team who is in charge of maintaining this piece of art. You gotta love the vision of this artist from time to time.

These bookcases are only one of a kind, it takes a special mind to construct such intriguing objects.  The builder added extra values to the bookcase, he/she keeps the function and improve the appearances of the creation. Truly beautiful and creative wood objects.  One look like a tree, another look like a windmill, and last is one is absolutely abstract.

This story is about Michael Arndt, the man of matchsticks. Over the course of six years, using 956,000 matchsticks, 1686 tubes of glue, and at least three different varieties of mustache, he built a full-scale replica of a McLaren 4/14 F1 car, at a cost of around 6000 Euros ($8,725). The giant model takes up Arndt’s entire kitchen and probably his social life. It can be broken down into 45 parts for easy transport to various matchstick-builders conventions.
