Who is the Hottest and Popular Female Surfer?

Jul 30, 2009 Author: webmaster | Filed under: Cool Tips, Life

Top 10: The Best Female Surfers

No.1 – Layne Beachley
Born: May 24, 1972
Sydney, Australia
There’s Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls of the 1990s, Tom Brady’s New England Patriots of the 2000s and then there’s Layne Beachley. Maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but in female surfing terms, she’s been that dominant. Layne Beachley is considered one of the best ever in her sport.

She has won seven World Championships (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2006) and became one of the few women to ever compete in a men’s tournament when she earned an invitation to the Energy Australian Open.
No.2 – Serena Brooke
Born: January 9, 1976
Queensland, Australia

Prior to the onset of some injuries in the latter part of her career, Serena Brooke had been a consistent competitor on the Association of Surfing Professionals Women’s World Tour. Since joining the ASP Tour in 1997, she finished top five in each of her first five years including two runner-up finishes to Layne Beachley in 1998 and 1999. In those seasons, she was ranked as the World’s No. 2 female surfer.

No.3 – Megan Abubo
Born: January 28, 1978
Connecticut

Megan Abubo has been among the best female surfers since she joined the World Championship Tour in 1998. She has pieced together a pretty nice resume, which includes several wins on the tour and a runner-up finish for the title in 2000, but Layne Beachley’s seven World Titles kind of overshadows her. Megan Abudo also has six Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour victories.
Megan Abudo spends most of her time surfing, but she has done a few side projects, such as a spread for Rolling Stone and an appearance as a stunt double in the movie Blue Crush.

No.4 – Malia Jones
Born: March 27, 1977
Loma Linda, California

Malia Jones is not just a pretty face — the fact that she’s smokin’ hot has helped attract a lot of people to the sport. Malia Jones started surfing at a very young age and won her first major competition (the girls division of the United States Amateur Surfing Championship) at the age of 15.

Although Surfing Magazine was the first to spot her and ask her to model, she has appeared in Cosmopolitan, Glamour, People, Shape, and, last but not least, Sports Illustrated. A lot of people are willing to buy whatever she’s selling, which is why she has also done a number of television commercials for companies like American Express and Corona.
No.5 – Keala Kennelly
Born: August 13, 1978
Kauai, Hawaii

Even if you aren’t a big surfing fan, Keala Kennelly is a recognizable name and face because of her mainstream appearances. She had a cameo in the 2002 Hollywood flick Blue Crush and earned a recurring role in HBO’s now-defunct drama series John From Cincinnati.

Although she has tried to branch out into acting, Keala Kennelly is one of the best female surfers around. She’s known as the Queen of Teahupoo. She was the first woman to be towed there and rode the biggest tow-in wave by a woman.
No.6 – Anastasia Ashley
Born: February 10, 1987
Los Angeles, California

When Anastasia Ashley suits up in one of her paper-thin bikinis and confidently tosses her golden blond hair in a photo shoot, you might make some assumptions about the Beverly Hills native.
The blonde sweetie is, however, as wholesome as it gets. She’s a PETA representative, she doesn’t drink or do drugs and Jessica Simpson is one of her role models.

While she doesn’t shy away from the camera and often models, her main focus is surfing. Even though she’s in her early 20s, she’s already accomplished quite a bit in the sport, with the National Scholastic Surfing Association’s women’s championship and the Pro Surf Tour of America’s women’s tour championship.
No.7 – Karina Petroni
Born: April 22, 1988
American Canal Zone at the Isthmus of Panama

You are the result of what you spend the most time doing, and for Karina Petroni, she has become a pretty good surfer since she first took it on when she was just two years old. Karina Petroni has been hyped as one of the best since she became the youngest surfer — male or female — to win the amateur championships. She won three amateur championships before adding Eastern U.S. and National Championships Titles.

She has many nicknames, from Shorty to Kitty Kat to the Maria Sharapova of surfing. The latter one isn’t hard to figure out, as this sexy blonde has found her way into Cosmogirl, Teen Vogue and FHM. You can keep tabs on her Escape Around the World series on YouTube.
No.8 – Erica Hosseini
Born: May 24, 1987
Palm Springs, California
If you have watched MTV’s Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County, then you likely have the perception that Newport Beach produces hot women like North Carolina produces NBA players. Surfer Erica Hosseini definitely doesn’t bring the average down.

Erica Hosseini started surfing when she was 11 and she has built a nice resume since then. She has won the 2005 Volcom Championships, the 2005 U.S. Championships and the 2007 Roxy Pro Junior, making Erica Hosseini a part of the new generation of up-and-comers. This blonde girl next door has also done some ad pages in magazines like Teen Vogue, Cosmogirl and Elle Girl.
No.9 – Christa Alves
Born: May 30, 1989
Perth Amboy, NJ
Christa Alves can’t legally drink alcohol, gamble or club in the United States, but in surfing, age has never stopped her from tearing up the ranks. Christa Alves has won multiple East Coast and National Junior Championships as well as the 2006 ASP North American Juniors Competition, and is the 2008 ASP North America Pro Junior women’s champion.

She’s very committed to her sport, as she opted for home schooling throughout high school in order to spend more time surfing. If there’s a tournament around, she’s down to be a part of it due to her love for competition.
No.10 – Daize Shayne
Born: May 21, 1978
Yucaipa, California
Daize Shayne is the triple threat on this list as she’s parlayed her looks, athletic ability and musical talent into successful surfing, modeling and music careers.

Daize Shayne first ripped it up on the waves and became a two-time longboard surfing champion before moving into modeling. The sexy babe has appeared in Maxim, Sports Illustrated, GQ, Teen, and she did a 16-page spread in ReadyGo Magazine Japan alongside Britney Spears. Needless to say, the camera likes her.
