Creating Art from Maps and Talents

Where and how can you find a unique medium to create art?  Well this artist have found his unique style through maps.  The entire piece was created from small parts of maps.

The lip on this photo is so good, the artist really picked out the best piece of the map for this creation.

Here is a little something about the live of this cool artist.  Matthew Cusick was born in New York City. He graduated from The Cooper Union with a BFA in 1993. Cusick’s paintings were first exhibited in New York in 1997 at the Andrew Kreps Gallery. Since then, Cusick has had solo exhibitions at the Kent Gallery in New York and the Lisa Dent Gallery in San Francisco as well as exhibitions at the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles and the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.

This is a stunning looking collage of a wild horse racing through world.

Here is the talented artist Matthew Cusick from Dallas Texas. His collages are as amazing as his talents. Matthew Cusick’s newest paintings are a series of Texas highways traversing allegorical landscapes.

For his second exhibition at Lisa Dent Gallery, Cusick has refined his technique of painting with maps, using them as a surrogate for paint – their inherent visual qualities of tone, value, and density employed to render the spatial image of the highways.

The maps used for this body of work come from Cusick’s collection of American world atlases and school geography books from 1872-1945, a time period during which the world’s geography changed dramatically.
